Executive Meeting – 18.30

1. Finance Report

  • Michelle provided an overview of the current finances and EOFY reports.


2. Presidents Report

  • Alan provided a summary of the current activities being undertaken by the President.
  • Alan discussed the upcoming August issue of Gunsmoke – advertising, articles, etc.
  • Alan discussed the outcomes of the new PVC solar panels on the roof of PCC.
  • Alan introduced new members of the GCC to existing members present at meeting.

 

General Meeting - 19.30

 

Introductions

  • New members of GCC/Gunsmoke team – Hayley, Diana, Jim and Amy.
  • Motion passed – All new members accepted into GCC Committee as agreed by existing, present members.

 

Gunsmoke

    • Advertising space/costs.
    • Printing/distribution quotes.
    • Monthly vs. bi-monthly - discussions.
    • Increase size/number of pages – discussions.

 

GCC Website

  • Advertising options (via Google).
  • Adding links/website addresses/business directory/editorials.

 

 

Fix My Street Website

  • Discussions to generate database – Canberra Connect/rangers/government bodies.
  • Neighbour complaints (anonymous).
  • Submit concerns electronically (online).
  • Advertising of website.
  • Job-tracking system.
  • Updates on site to show progress.

 


Guest Speaker cancellation

  • Mr Stuart Chalker from LDA, re: Franklin suburb project.
    • Activities to bring community together/ Land set aside for food growth.
    • Report sent to Minister with recommendations which has not yet been returned. Discussions cannot occur until returned.

ACTPLA - Sustainable Future Program - Planning & Development Forum Update 07 July 2009.

  • Overview and description of project
  • Targets & Goals, Community building
  • Community, place and self, build resilience & responsiveness to change, value and acknowledge the community/city
  • Stakeholder workshops –key issues:
  • Transport & Communication
  • Culture/Knowledge
  • Energy, water, infrastructure
  • Bush Capital
  • Economics and administration
  • See ACTPLA website
  • Key speakers for each workshop/results/papers written – each workshop had at least 5 speakers – short and long term goals – private and public enterprise, academics, government representatives – diverse group
  • Papers written to synthesise all the issues and implications of what was raised at the workshop
  • Paper One
  • Indicate approach, ideas, raising debate, community targets, review of residential and subdivision codes, climate change – public consultation Nov 09 – available for 2-3 months – web – chatrooms.
  • Paper Two
  • Are targets being met? Plans, scenarios, discuss paper audit, planning and development framework review/s
  • Workshop analysis
  • Education, planning, influencing industry, governance, engagement, money, resourcing, other government stakeholders, pricing, housing, neighbourhood, common issues – climate change, indigenous heritage, progress in public transport – buses and light rail, reducing consumption, increasing flexibility, intangible values of community, look at carbon footprint, live within our means more appropriately, more efficient use of public space, change of attitudes and values, changes in population – what/how does that affect planning and design? Designing, planning and evaluating our public realm – evolution of suburbs.
  • Barriers
  • Outmoded thinking, intertia, oversimplification, under resourcing, timeframes and personal values, consequences and relationships.
  • Canberra Community
  • Urgency to tackle climate change, change approach – affecting social and economic systems – plan of city changes, need to articulate targets and strategies clearly, identify trade-offs.
  • Urban design conference
  • Looked at the difference between the Gold Coast in 1970 and now. They took into consideration sea-level changes – canal, what would be lost, storm frequencies –mapping city around future changes to climate. Changes to a city can happen very quickly – it needs to be managed properly.

Discussions after Guest Speaker

  • Satellite city concepts
  • Reliant on high speed public transport – need a light rail link between town centres – Gungahlin/City/Belconnen.
  • Making transport convenient
  • Design, reliability, frequency, convenience.
  • Need more job opportunities within town centres so less people will commute.
  • Intention for land to be put aside within the Gungahlin area for vegetable garden/s
  • Sense of community, food production, education for children
  • Plot should be put aside within the perimeters for each family/individual for own use
  • Built in to a new area from day one, rather than introduce after planning has begun

 

Lee - President of Gungahlin Rugby Union Club – Eagles

  • In need of a home base/more sponsorship/grants.
  • Currently rely on volunteers and small funding.
  • Club has moved to Nicholls to train and play.
  • Need a parcel of land (enclosed oval) with better /cleaner facilities, licensed club.
  • Throsby Sports Playing Fields – option?

 

Scout Facilities within Gungahlin

  • Growing presence of scouts in the area.
  • Limited halls, schools.
  • No storage area for ropes, cooking materials, etc.
  • No land allocated for these types of services.
  • Yerrabi pond – cancelled plot for scout hall.
  • Church groups – no land available unless bought privately.
  • Abundance of youth in the Gungahlin region – not even mountain biking/dirt bike facilities.
  • Gold Creek Homestead has sufficient land for these facilities but not permitted by ACT Government.

 

To discuss at next meeting

  • Nudurr Road extension.
  • Clare Hermes Drive extension.
  • Horse Park Drive extension – to join Burramurra.
  • Mirrabei vs. Horse Park Drive not yet joined.
  • Extension of Gundaroo Rd towards Forde, Bonner and NSW border. Aiding access to Bonner.
  • Extension to Wells Station Drive – Flemington Road, and the joining to Horse Park Drive.
