As the Canberra Airport readies its revised Master Plan, the subject of noise impacts from the planned expansion are sure to be on many peoples’ agendas. So too the traffic impacts of the airport’s unrelated commercial expansion.

From Gungahlin’s perspective, it’s all about the lack of planning, and this quote from the University of Melbourne transport expert Dr Paul Mees (who knows Canberra quite well) strike to the heart of it:
“Canberra is the most extreme example that the people who own airports subvert local planning intentions and subvert employment in places like Woden or Gungahlin.”
And ACTPLA’s Mike Quirk points out the environmental impact:
“Most employment at the airport has been attracted from far more accessible locations elsewhere in Canberra.”
