Study participants needed - mammography study

I'm a Doctorate of Psychology student at the Australian National University, and I'm having difficulty obtaining enough participants for my study.

My study is looking at the reasons why some women over the age of 50 don't screen for breast cancer by obtaining mammograms.

Participation involves completing two surveys, which would take about 30 minutes. Information on how to participate in my study follows. Don't hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or require further information.

Project Title:
Reasons some women do not attend mammography screening, and the effects of message framing.

This study is an important project looking at reasons why some women do not obtain breast screening, and the effect presentation style of information about screening has on emotions, attitudes and intentions to screen.  This is your opportunity to help contribute to research aimed at improving screening rates for those whom screening is recommended.

It has been considered and approved by the ANU Human Research Ethics Committee, as well as the ACT Health Human Research Ethics Committee. The results of this study may help us identify reasons women do or do not screen, allowing for improvements in the BreastScreen program. Further, results may provide information on how best to present information regarding screening to women in a way that will encourage more women to screen.

Participants needed:

  • Women aged 50 - 75 who do NOT obtain regular mammograms (ie every 2nd year)
Who also:
  • have not previously had breast cancer
  • who would, if screening, access mammography services in Canberra.
Participation involves:
  • Receiving surveys by mail, or completing surveys on a secure website
  • Completing survey #1
  • Reading a brief letter
  • Completing survey #2
  • Returning surveys via prepaid post, or submitting online via secure website
  • Approx duration: 30 mins
Participation is anonymous. Any personal information collected in order to distribute surveys will be destroyed once the survey has been posted. How to participate:Thanks very much!
