My wife and I attended GCC Meeting on 11th April when John Hargreaves and other ACT Government representatives attended. Just wish to say thought you did a great job in providing a professional, rational view of the issues that concern Gungahlin residents to the guests. You did well in keeping meeting on track and didn't let things get out of hand. We appreciate your efforts as a volunteer.
Pity Simon Corbell was unable to attend...
John Hargreaves rightly pointed out how many of the big issues such as jobs are not of their making. The airport town centre is a reality, so we, in choosing to live in Gungahlin, have accepted it pretty much will be a dormitory area. Once acknowledging Gungahlin is/will be a dormitory area means big emphasis needs to be placed on transport, both roads and buses.Questions/Issues
1. Bus
1.1 Disappointed that there is no longer any through service from Gungahlin to Woden/Tuggeranong. The 153 used to travel from Ngunnawal/Amaroo through to City and then onto Woden and Tuggeranong. There was two services in morning and two in afternoon. This was well frequented.
1.2 Disappointed now often have to stand between Civic and Woden at peak hours. Attracting workers onto bus at peak times should be the goal. This is a major disincentive.
2. Arterial Roads
2.1 Gungahlin Drive extension is a step in the right direction. It will obviously be crowded from day one, but at least it is there and the government did act in Gungahlin residents interest to get road built. I do like how they refer to the existing road (one lane each way) as a dual carriage way. I would like to see a single carriage way.
2.2 Flemington Road
Why so many little streets joining Flemington Road from Northcrest Estate? Some of these do not have run of lanes when turn of Flemington Road into Northcrest Estate. Should be like other suburbs with few major intersections.
Why no major road from Flemington Road to Horse Park Drive? To get to Forde, Jacka, Bonner people have to weave through Northcrest Estate.
3. Local Roads
3.1 The Town Centre
The pedestrian crossings are an accident waiting to happen.
Why no decent road around town centre like other town centres?
Many cases of poor road design such as merge into one lane on Gundaroo Drive after crossing Gungahlin Drive near Golf Club. Poor vision at round-abouts such as Kate Crace/Anthony Rolfe due to trees/plants in middle of intersection.
