Do you know a yound Canberran who is making a contribution to the community? Nominations for the 2008 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards (YCCY) are now open.

The Awards recognise young people who have made a significant contribution for young people in areas such as health and community, sport, education, science, culture, the arts and the environment.

Last year's winners included Hannah Lord as the Young Canberran of the year, for her outstanding community work, James Hunter and Joshua Harrison who received awards for encouragement. Kellie Momi and Callum Larkman were recognised for personal achievement while Hidden Corners Theatre Group received the group award for raising the profile of young carers in the media and wider community.

The ACT Government, Youth InterACT and Community CPS Australia, sponsor the Awards. Winners receive cash prizes and will be announced during National Youth Week in April 2008.

Nominees for the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award, Personal Achievement and the Group Award must be aged between 12 and 25 years of age. The Encouragement Award nominees are aged between 12-16 years of age.

Nomination close 17 December 2007 and forms can be obtained by contacting Kathy Ross on 6205 9286 or online at www.youth.act.gov.au. Forms are also available Community CPS Australia branches in the ACT.
