Construction started on the new Youth Justice Centre site in May led by the project managers Hindmarsh. The ACT Government describes the beginning of construction on site as 'an important milestone in the Government commitment to provide a new facility and in doing so to respond to the last of the Human Rights Commission's Audit recommendations regarding the existing facility.'

The site is mid-way between Flemington Road (near the Sandford Road intersection) and the Federal Highway.

Earthworks have commenced and in the next few months, we are expecting to see other early site works that will include site establishment, maintenance, preliminary landscaping, slabs and other construction work.

Completion is planned for June 2008.

A celebration for the beginning of construction is planned for Monday 02/07/2007.
