Gunsmoke 116 out now PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dave Bockett
Sunday, 07 March 2010 14:42

17,620 copies of the latest issue of the GCC newsletter Gungahlin Smokesignals - GunSmoke - are now being delivered across Gungahlin.

Issue 116 features articles on a unique wetlands park planned for the Gungahlin town centre, and unfortunately moke pokies being foisted on us by the ACT ALP Government. We also feature the regrettable decision by the ACT Government to locate an extension of Well Station Drive - four lanes with 20,000 cars per day - just 20 metres from a quiet residential street.

Delivery of Gunsmoke 116 is being sponsored - as always - by the Gungahlin Lakes Golf and Community Club.

Businesses interested in advertising in Issue 117 should get in quick. The deadline is 10 March.

14,500 copies of the latest issue of the GCC newsletter Gungahlin Smokesignals - GunSmoke - are now being delivered across Gungahlin.

If you haven't received your by the end of next weekend, please let us know, as we've had some problems with the delivery firm. Please leave a message via the General Enquiries contact page.

A big thanks to GCC Vice President Jonathon Reynolds, who stepped in to make sure GunSmoke 106 got out the door on time.

Again, we wish to apologise to our readers and  advertisers about how late the February GunSmoke was, due largely to losing a couple of key people from the Gungahlin Community Council recently.

If you've ever thought about getting involved with GCC, now's the time. Our voluntary community organisation is working hard to ensure the government develops our growing community appropriately. Leading up to a local election is a really exciting time to be involved - it's the time to get some serious "runs on the board".

Delivery of Gunsmoke 106 is being sponsored - as always - by the Gungahlin Lakes Golf and Community Club.

Gunsmoke 105 delivery late PDF Print E-mail

Issue 105 of Gungahlin Smokesignals - Gunsmoke - is now being delivered. It's about a month late, and this means that a number of the date claimers have slipped by.

We sincerely apologise for this delay - to our readers and our advertisers.

GCC is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation, and like any such group the individual people putting in their time sometimes run into personal demands and family issues, and these will always be higher priorities over community work.

We are working on Issue 106 right now so that it can go out on time. But we really do need some new people on board. Gunsmoke needs someone who enjoys working with Publisher to put the content together once every two months.

And we need another person who likes dealing with businesses to pull together the advertising. With more than 14,000 copies distributed for each issue, Gunsmoke represents the best way for our local businesses to reach local people.

So can you help? Click on the Contacts page above and drop us a line.

The aroma of lavender is well-known for its calming properties. This is what Rebecca Karr of Anthony Rolfe Avenue wanted when she purchased ten beautiful lavender plants and planted them at front of her property recently.

Rebecca needs some beauty in her life at the moment, as she is struggling with the effects of chemotherapy after being recently diagnosed with cancer.

On Friday 12 October, she was devastated to find that all the plants had been removed from their garden by someone who apparently thought they had a better use for them - or as she says in an email to Gunsmoke: "some scum bag has stolen them".

Does anyone out there know about these plants?  Has this happened to anyone else in the area? Maybe you can help Rebecca replace these plants for her garden. Contact us at info at gcc.asn.au if you know anything.

Hello everyone. I am Janet McKinney, and I have been dragooned into being the editor for the Gunsmoke at the recent AGM. Actually, I did volunteer - it has been a dream of mine for several years to be a part of a community publication like this.

I completed a Degree in Mass Communication in 2004, and discovered a real passion for writing and communication.

It is my vision to see the GunSmoke work hand-in-hand with the website to provide you - the residents, business people and workers in Gungahlin - a vehicle to have your voice heard in the community.
