In June, we had a presentation from Alastair MacCallum of AMC Projects, who are designing a new development for Community Housing Canberra, to be constructed on Gozzard Street just up from the Emergency Services.
At the time we were concerned that this was to be right next door to the previous such development, and that the parking problems the GCC predicted prior to its development had indeed come true, and that therefore having this development next door would make this problem even better. We supported the idea but not the location.
We wrote to Chief Minister Jon Stanhope explaining these concerns. Here is his reply (121.30 KB) , with which we have problems.
The statement in his reply that CHC requested this particular block from the LDA is at odds with what the CHC representative told us at our meeting. He said that the LDA told them that this was the block they could have, hence our letter to the Chief Minister, as his portfolio includes the LDA. Our correspondence to Mr Stanhope has been passed on to CHC and they have not sought to correct this assertion by us.
Our other concern is that this issue should be resolved BEFORE going to DA. The CHC came to us early in their development process, and in that spirit we are seeking to sort out this concern before any more money is spent on this particular block of land.
(By the way, apologies for the time it has taken to get the Chief Minister's reply posted - for some reason his staff choose to reply to emails with snail mail, and my scanner was out of action.)
