At our GCC meeting in October, the LDA and Chief Minister Jon Stanhope unveiled plans showing staged releases of land within the planned business park are on the western side of Gozzard Street behind the emergency services buildings.
The first stages of release however were for one and two storey commercial uses, with decent sized commercial office blocks still some way down the track, and then only on a much reduced land parcel due to the earlier releases.
The meeting made it clear to Mr Stanhope that this proposal was 'underwhelming' and that we'd prefer the land to remain vacant for a while rather than be so substantially underutilised.
Here's a copy of the concept plan for the overall site that the LDA gave us.
We are yet to hear back from the Chief Minister or the LDA about our concerns for this particular site. But we did have a recent win where the ACT Government allocated $200,000 to ACTPLA to review the Gungahlin Town Centre Master Plan,
and we are hoping that this will supersede the above plans.
However we remain concerned as the LDA seem to operate quite independently of ACTPLA. We are seeking confirmation from Mr Stanhope and will keep residents posted.
