A DA is with ACTPLA now for a new Caltex service station in Nicholls - corner of Curran Drive and Barton Highway, here.
Full details are on ACTPLA's website, but a site plan is here (116.63 KB) . Apparently a DA was approved for this site a couple of years ago, but maybe it lapsed and had to be relodged...
The plans show it will have a auto car wash and convenience store and be a lot bigger than the existing Woollies one. From the signage plans it seems to NOT be a Woolies servo - not that the 4 cent discount makes much difference these days when petrol is above $1.30.
On other servos for Gungahlin, there's still no sign of activity for the other one that is to be built next door to the Woollies one in the town centre, but they'll likely face the same problems of having to start construction soon or lose their approval. Whoever in the LDA thought it would be clever to put them side-by-side? The local traffic problems that are going to come from that don't bear thinking about...
And the already built servo at Amaroo has until March to commence operations or they will lose their permit. See Minister Andrew Barr's comment on this story.
What we really need is for an independent operator like United to set up to create some localised price competition, and located on Flemington Road would be a ripper location for them given the existing commuter traffic on that road.
