Dec 2011 NBN Update Meeting

Video of the recent NBN Update meeting held on Tues 13th Dec 2011.

The Gungahlin Community Council (GCC) is a voluntary, not for profit, community-based association operating in the Gungahlin district of Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory. This area covers the north-northwest of the ACT between the ACT/NSW border, the Barton Highway to the south, and the Federal Highway to the east, including the village of Hall. Our objective is to preserve and improve the social, cultural, economic and environmental well-being of Gungahlin and the Gungahlin community.
Note: GCC is not a local government. If you have enquiries relating to government issues, we may be able to help you. However, the main contact for ACT Government enquiries is Canberra Connect phone 13 22 81 or at canberraconnect.act.gov.au.

Katy will discuss the sub-acute hospital site selection process and our concerns with the assessment methodology used by ACT Health.

UPDATE 1 June 2007

The closing date for submissions to the Territory Plan Reform project has arrived, and our submission is finished.

I am SO glad that is over. It has been all-consuming for two months now. Although the submission itself only went to 24 pages, it required reading and understanding something the size of an average uni text book, plus many meetings and a number of exchanges with the other ACT Community Councils. In one recent meeting, a development industry group representative said they had six people working on their submission!

We could have covered more ground with a little more time or less other consultation demands, but ultimately the clock ran out. You can check my calendar if you are interested in the sort of time that had to go into this project.

I welcome your comments and feedback, and we await the outcome to see what impact we have had.

UPDATE 28 May 2007

The closing date for submissions to the Territory Plan Reform project is Friday 1 June.

The submission I've been working on on behalf of the GCC is coming along . There was probably enough time allocated for us to get through and comment on the whole plan, but there have been so many other consultation processes going at the same time (like the Action bus inquiry), that has made it impossible for me to put the time into the Territory Plan that I wanted to. C'est la vie...

Although the link to the relevant ACTPLA page is below, the maps themselves can be hard to find - they are at the bottom of this link page.

I welcome your comments and feedback.

10 April 2007

Attached is ACTPLA's plan for the consultation for the Territory Plan.

Three of the sessions are evening ones and they've been careful to make these the ones most relevant to community needs. They also pushed these meetings from 4pm back to 5pm at our request. But the precinct/subdivision session will likely also be of interest to community members. No RSVPs to ACTPLA are necessary for any of these sessions.

ACTPLA have also committed to meeting with individuals/groups where needed to resolve specific areas of concern.

The consultation period runs for 8 weeks from 4 April. So our May meeting with the ACTPLA presentation will be right in the middle of that. I hope that we will be well into our consideration of the draft by then, so we'll be able to focus a chunk of the available time with them going through specific areas of concern. We'll also need to have some backgrounding though for everyone who hasn't been involved in the preliminary consultation they've done with some of us so far...

Everything for the draft Plan is available online, but of course the big maps will make online browsing a bit unwieldy.

One of the key ways to do submissions will be via online lodgement, which will have questions with yes/no style responses, plus importantly free text fields for each in case of need. All the details are here.

It is going to be a busy time for us all in the GCC, but this is probably as important as it gets for our sort of organisation.

If you have skills/expertise in the planning, architectural, or similar areas, we'd love to hear from you.
