Gozzard St affordable housing development approved

CHC Affordable Housing is a not-for-profit organisation undertaking affordable housing development projects to help
deliver the ACT Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan.

Affordable housing will meet the needs of the average Canberran resident who is struggling to meet increased costs of
living, particularly the costs associated with housing.

As part of our delivery program, CHC is undertaking the construction of a 19 unit, 3 storey apartment complex in Gungahlin on block 1 section 76 Gozzard Street.

Gozzard Street frontage

The project will deliver 11 one bedroom units, 6 two bedroom units including 2 fully accessible units and 2 three
bedroom units.  Secure basement parking will also be provided as will appropriate visitor parking.
East frontage and car park entrance

These apartments will either be sold at affordable values or retained by CHC and rented at affordable rates.

While developing the designs for this project, CHC has regularly consulted with GCC, resulting in a development which
will deliver a quality outcome.

GCC ED: CHC first presented this proposal to GCC in June 2007. At the time we raised concerns with the location (adjacent to an existing CHC development with existing parking problems), and that the parking provided for residents and guests was inadequate. We took those concerns to ACTPLA via a DA submission and to the ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope as minister repsonsible for land releases.

The response from Jon Stanhope was fruitless as the LDA had already done the deal on the land, but the submission to ACTPLA helped lead to revised plans with resident parking increased from 21 to 27 spaces, and visitor parking up from four to five spaces.

GCC is making a difference in the Gungahlin community. Can you help? We need more volunteers.
