Gungahlin residents can look forward to improved bus services from November 2010.
TAMS staff will attend GCC meetings in October and November to talk about these changes, as well as seek your input into studies of future bus service design, demand responsive transport and the new Gungahlin Major Station, which will be built in 2011-12.
ACTION’s new bus timetable will start in mid-November. It includes a range of improvements for Gungahlin including an additional morning Xpresso trip to Brindabella Park, a new weekday route through Franklin and upgraded infrastructure. New bus stops and bike rails have already been installed on Flemington Road - look for the distinctive orange ACTION bollards along the route. New park’n’ride and bike’n’ride facilities will also be completed by early 2011 at Flemington Road/Nullabor Ave and EPIC respectively.
Following the successful trial of trial of the Redex limited stop service to Kingston via Civic in 2009-10, ACTION has made the service permanent. The route will be extended to travel to DFO in Fyshwick and continue to operate every 15 minutes between 7am and 7pm weekdays.
To complement the Redex, a new Route 50 will operate in the evening as an all-stop service along the Flemington Road / Northbourne Avenue corridor. With the permanent inclusion of Redex into the network, Route 5 will travel from Narrabundah to the City only. A new weekday route 57 will travel along Northbourne Avenue to Gungahlin via Franklin, giving residents a suburban link to the City and the Marketplace.
The commuter service to Brindabella Park (for which GCC successfully lobbied) will be extended – again following further lobbying from GCC. An additional morning Xpresso trip to Brindabella and Fairbairn Park will allow Gungahlin residents a little more time to sleep in, with a later departure from the Marketplace at 7:30am. This service will arrive at Brindabella Park at 8:05am and Fairbairn Park at 8:15am.
New bus timetables and further details will be available two weeks prior to the change from all bus stations, Canberra Connect Shopfronts, through the ACTION call centre on 13 17 10, and online at www.action.act.gov.au.
