UPDATE 18 May 2007
We had a great response for the first time we've used a poll on our website, with 70 responses. And we set it up to inhibit anyone trying to vote multiple times, so we have confidence in the figures.
We asked: Minister Hargreaves says no-one wants a bus service to the airport down Majura Road. Would you use it?
You said:
Occasionally 39 56.5% No - I don't work out there 3 4.3%
Every weekday 27 39.1% No - I'd rather drive 1 1.4%
So a pretty overwhelming response in favour of a direct service there...
We've included these results as part of our overall submission to the government's inquiry into the Action bus services here, and sent a copy to Minister Hargreaves as well for his response. We'll keep you posted. Thank you for the great input!
28 April 2007
At our April meeting, Transport Minister John Hargreaves said that no-one had ever asked for a bus service from Gungahlin down Horse Park Drive and Majura Road to the airport and Brindabella Park area.
This was a surprise to us, as we know that a lot of Gungahlin residents work in "Snow town".
So what do you think? We welcome your feedback - through the poll on our Home Page, direct to me at president at gcc.asn.au, or direct to Minister Hargreaves at hargreaves@act.gov.au - or to all three!
If you are one of those doing that commute every day, you'd be well familiar with the reference to it as the "Majura Road parking lot" - so slow is the morning crawl.
And it isn't helped by the addition of those annoying two roundabouts at Brand Depot. Why the ACT Government allowed roundabouts there, we'll probably never know. Roundabouts are good solutions for intersections with fairly balanced traffic flows from all directions. But where there is a gross imbalance in traffic flows - as at the Brand Depot entries - a roundabout is a bad solution - it merely slows down the main flow for no other benefit. If ever there was a location for ordinary old traffic lights...
Remember - your feedback drives our activities in the Gungahlin Community Council. And ACTION is reviewing their services at present, given the bad feedback their pre-Christmas schedule changes received, so there is perhaps a better than normal chance of their paying attention to your needs.
