New speed cameras

News - Transport

It seems that the ACT Government have hit on a real revenue winner with speed cameras popping up all over the place, and revenues projected to jump from $13M to $20 pa!. Far be it for us to complain about speed cameras, lest we get the treatment the NRMA's Allan Evans received from the Chief Minister earlier this month.

We'll just leave it at letting you know where the next batch are going in...

  • Federal Highway, northbound, approaching the Antill Street roundabout (that's both directions now - really don't understand this one, as you have to slow down for the roundabout anyway...)
  • Barton Highway, both directions, between Curran Drive and Gold Creek Road
  • Barton Highway, both directions, between Gungahlin Drive and Ellenborough Street

On the subject of speeds, the speed limit on a favourite city bypass route for Gungahlin drivers - Ainslie's Officer Crescent - has been  surreptitiously dropped from 60 to 50 kph, accompanied by the occasional swarm of neon yellow-jacketed AFP officers.
