Advertising Rates
Important changes from May 2010
We've received a lot of great feedback on the full-colour GunSmoke format we’ve used since Issue 110 in December 2008. And using Australia Post means we get a copy into every home and business between the Barton and Federal Highways—almost 18,000 of them.
We can’t produce it without the support of the businesses that advertise in it. But as the Gungahlin population has rapidly climbed, so have out costs. Each issue now costs more than $8000 to print and post.
Our ad rates, however, haven’t changed since April 2008 when we did just 14,500 copies, which were mostly black and white, with usually just four colour pages. Printing now costs us the same, whether it’s full colour or just black and white, yet we have still been charging half rates for B&W ads. To return GunSmoke to a break-even, we need all ads to be the same rate.
The good news for businesses with colour ads is that your costs will drop some 14–17%. The good news for those using B&W is that your ad can look a lot better in colour, and it won’t be double the cost any more. And you are now reaching 25% more people than you were just two years ago. No other advertising medium can give you the full Gungahlin coverage you get with GunSmoke.

We've made a lot of changes to make GunSmoke a better read, and to make it a better advertising vehicle for local businesses to reach local people.
In order that our volunteers can get each issue of GunSmoke designed within the very tight production timeframes, we've streamlined our processes for lodging ads. We now require all ads to conform to standard sizes and to be pre-designed by you or your designer.
Please follow these requirements to help us ensure each edition issues in a timely way:
-
Advertising rates are outlined in the accompanying brochure. As GunSmoke is now printed with a full four-colour process, there is no difference in pricing between colour and black and white ads.
-
Use the ad booking form above. The booking form is your authority to us to invoice you for the specified amount, and therefore it must be submitted by the 15th of the month prior to publication.
-
To assist our volunteers in preparing for publication of the GunSmoke, all advertisements must be submitted in high resolution ready-to-print format, in either .jpg, .tiff (preferred) or .pdf formats. All graphics and non-standard fonts must be embedded in the file. Volunteers are not able to assist in formatting your advertisement. We reserve the right to refuse ads we deem inadequately formatted.
-
Your ad file should be attached to your Ad Booking Enquiry Form, and submitted by 15th of the month prior to publication in order to be included.
-
All advertisements must fit into the standardised sizes as designated in the brochure above. If your advertisement does not fit within one of these sizes, it will be scaled up to the nearest size and charged accordingly.
- Ads for community not-for-profit organisations attract a 20% discount on the regular fee for that ad size.
-
A prepayment discount of 10% is available for a single ad placement if your ad is paid for BEFORE the GunSmoke goes to the printers. (This does not apply for community ads.)
-
Payment by direct deposit into our bank account is preferred. Details will be advised on your invoice.
-
All advertising is accepted and printed on a best effort and available space basis, with priority given to regular advertisers and advertisements with a Gungahlin regional focus.
