| | FAQ...FAQ... FAQ means Frequently Asked Questions. In this section of the website we will attempt to provide information on frequently requested questions of the Council.
Q: I have a issue or matter of concern (of relevance in/or about Gungahlin) how can the Council assist? We encourage you to help yourself and help the Council and get involved wherever and whenever you can.
The Gungahlin Community Council Inc. is an incorporated, voluntary, not for profit, community-based association operating within the Gungahlin District of the Australian Capital Territory.
The Council's core objective is "To preserve and improve the social, cultural, economic and environmental well being of Gungahlin and the Gungahlin Community."
See [About Us] and [Council Activities] for the types of activities that the Council undertakes.
Participation in the Council is unpaid and voluntary (with all volunteers and committee members setting aside time for Council activities on top of their normal work, family and other commitments) so if you believe a matter to be important, please get involved and assist the Council.
You can start by contacting the Council Executive and other Committee members through this website, by email or telephone.
The Council also holds a regular public meeting once a month (except January) and all Gungahlin community members are encouraged to attend these meetings, where issues and matters of importance can be raised and discussed. Even writing a short article for the Council newsletter - Gunsmoke (or this website) can help to raise general awareness of an issue and provide a forum in which potential solutions can be made or suggested.
Often an issue raised may require specific follow-up actions. A non-exhaustive list of examples of follow-up action may include: - letter writing,
- preparing submissions, reports or proposals,
- collection of signatures for petitions,
- surveying the public for their opinions,
- handing out of pamphlets or undertaking letter box drops,
- "hands-on" participation to resolve particular issues or problems,
- general campaigning and lobbying activities,
- attending meetings, forums, workshops or public rallies, and
- coordinating activities with other groups and individuals.
As a result, if you can't assist or do not want to get involved yourself, each issue will be prioritised and dealt with in a way that fits its perceived importance and the available time and willingness of the active Council members to deal with it.
Please, we encourage you to help yourself by helping the Council and getting involved wherever you can. We all lead incredibly busy lives, but with a little teamwork and cooperation you will be utterly amazed at what can be achieved and the difference it can actually make! |
